Our speakers included leading clinicians and people who use services who advocated for standards and the impact they are having on improving care, and attendees heard about the great strides PRSB’s Partner Scheme has made this year.

Recap: Diabetes standards consultation webinars

The PRSB has been commissioned by NHS England and Improvement to develop two information record standards to improve care for people with diabetes. Learning first-hand about the information requirements of people with lived experience of diabetes and professionals providing care is crucial to the standards’ development. This month we held two sets of webinars to consult with people and professionals on the information needed for good diabetes care.

New in: Safe prescribing of medicines

Medicines optimisation has been in the spotlight with the publication of the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) report on overprescribing, and the release of NHS Digital’s new information standard notice to support the safe transfer of medicines information. Information standards are crucial to ensuring the safe prescribing and transfer of medical information and PRSB welcomes both the report and directive to help meet this aim.

The agenda was wide-ranging, and attendees heard from clinicians, digital health professionals, and health tech suppliers and data architects on how we progress the digital transformation in care for better patient outcomes and operational efficiencies.

Get involved: Book your place on our nursing focus group

The Professional Records Standards Body (PRSB) has been commissioned by NHSX to undertake a national project towards developing a national nursing records standard. The aim of the standard is to improve and standardise nursing records by improving the structure and content, so enabling care providers to share better information between and within organisations and enable citizens easier navigation of their records.

A discovery phase of work took place earlier this year with national leaders, frontline nurses, and people consulted, and the findings endorsed the need for a national nursing records standard to support the sharing of information between patients, carers, and professionals. During the discovery phase, we identified aspects of best practice and outlined how a nursing standard could dovetail with existing standards for nursing records.

We would now like to engage with a wider group of people who have used health and care services, to determine what further information a national nursing record standard should include. The virtual focus group is taking place on 7th October 10-11.30. Remuneration is available for attendees at a rate of £25 per hour and there are limited spaces left.

If you would like to attend please email info@theprsb.org.

Have your say: Co-design a digital Mental Health summary with OneLondon

OneLondon is a group led by London’s five health and care partnerships and the London Ambulance Service. It is supported by NHS England, the Greater London Authority and London’s three Academic Health Science Networks.

Renumeration for taking part will be available. Please email rebekah.tailor@uclpartners.com to book your place.

New: Faculty of Clinical Informatics releases model job description for CCIOs

The Faculty of Clinical Informatics (FCI) has developed an example of an ideal job description for a Chief Clinical Informatics Officer (CCIO), to help standardise the remit of the role across the 4 nations. The description, which is based on the FCI’s Core Competency Framework, describes the CCIO as:

  • The single most senior clinical informatician within an organisation
  • An executive role with an associated salary to reflect this
  • A role that can be fulfilled by an individual from any professional background who can demonstrate competencies as outlined within the FCI Competency Framework.

FCI and Digital Health are hosting a webinar on the 22nd October to discuss the model description and ask if it’s fit for purpose and what else needs to be included, particularly to ensure the role’s authority and legitimacy.
