New diabetes standards will help improve care and wellbeing for people with diabetes
Information is vital for the many millions of people living with diabetes and the professionals supporting them. PRSB has published two standards that will help to ensure the right information flows between services and from medical devices and tools to the professionals that need it, to support better care and outcomes for people with diabetes. The Diabetes Information Record Standard defines the information needed to support a person’s diabetes management, while the Diabetes Self-Management Standard defines information that could be recorded by the person or their carer at home and shared with health and care professionals.
New PRSB wound care standard will help people living with pain and discomfort
Too many people suffer from wounds that don’t heal or that happen time and time again. Better information sharing to improve wound care is vital and PRSB is working with the National Wound Care Strategy Programme to develop an information standard for wound care assessment, management, maintenance and prevention. Surveys with people and patients will take place in August, workshops on pressure ulcers, surgical wounds and lower limb wounds in September and wider online consultation in November.
PRSB welcomes the Association of Mental Health Providers, Care England and the National Care Association as new members. As we strive for equity between health and social care and a comprehensive consideration of integrated care, we are delighted to be experiencing a surge in new members from the social care sector.
System C & Graphnet Care Alliance becomes a partner
After seeing Graphnet form a strong relationship with the PRSB and make good progress on standards development for shared care records and population health, Chief Executive Nick Wilson and his colleagues at the four other suppliers within the Care Alliance have opted to join the Standards Partnership Scheme.
We have an exciting programme for this year’s AGM, focused on person-centred care, standards and connectivity, with something for everyone. The September event will feature a keynote speech from James Sanderson and focus on the #CareAboutMe campaign and system-wide implementation of standards.
Challenges to standards adoption
Recognising the positive role of system suppliers in the drive for standards and connectivity, PRSB CEO, Lorraine Foley, considers the technical impediments to implementation and urges more people to complete NHS England's survey on the blockers to standards adoption and connectivity.
